Introduction to Mark Making with Margaret Wollett

Introduction to Mark Making with Margaret Wollett

Stepping you through various calligraphic techniques, you will create a concertina booklet using calligraphic marks, lettering and your own handmade pen.

Learn to use other tools, new and old, to make calligraphic marks then, using these mark bring texture and rhythm into your lettering.

Make your own pen and learn to use it to produce a 'concertina' sampler book of your workshop time, for further reference.

Materials

Canson, MiTiente colour Paper sheets X 2. One sheet for each concertina book we will make. A paper with a surface 'tooth' or texture will add  another dimension to the letters/marks we will make. If you have other like weight paper you wish to bring feel free to do so.

Watercolour and Acrylic paints you have- do not need a large colour range, also a black and white to mix tints and tones would be good to bring.

Tools you have- Brushes, to mix paints, as well as to use-pointed/flat square. Any nibs/calligraphy pens/mark making tools bring along.

Layout paper/practice paper.

Pencil/Ruler/eraser etc for ruling lines.Craft knife and long steel rule for cutting paper. Bone folder if you have one.

Glue - PVA, Double sided tape for joining paper.

A aluminum can - empty of drink- the thicker walled cans are best. I find the cans with Coconut milk drink have a much better quality aluminum than the well known fizzy drink cans. You will need a pair of craft scissors to cut the can with, and a pair of wooden chopstick sticks.

Any tools you think you would like to experiment with, twigs/small brushes/wood/rubber tools etc.
