This is a general painting class for beginners or intermediate painters. This course provides comprehensive tuition in the essentials of painting. Bring in a picture you would like to paint and learn how to start and develop a painting. There will be short demonstrations along the way.
MATERIALS REQUIRED: (General) Notebook, pen, HB, 2B, 6B pencils, masking tape, cotton rag or paper towels, acid free foam board or any surface to attach canvas sheets or watercolour paper, water pot.
(Paint/Brushes) In general, please bring whatever you have – red, blue, yellow, burnt sienna, white and black for acrylic, oil or watercolour, brushes and a palette. If using oils, please don’t bring turps but sunflower oil for mixing and cleaning up.

Learn the intracacies of flax weaving and how to create useful containers. Ruth Port is a highly experienced weaver having taught around the world and in New Zealand classrooms to children and teachers.
You will learn how to harvest, treat and weave flax from simple forms to more challenging items over four days, 10-3pm daily. This course is suitable for beginners onwards.

Shane Gallagher is an award - winning artist working primarily in clay. He has work in the Wallace Collection and has been a finalist in the Portage Ceramic Awards.
This introductory course to Wheel Throwing is for beginners and also open to students wanting to further their skills. Students will be taught the basics of throwing pots on the electric wheel. Techniques covered, include wedging, centering, throwing, trimming and glazing.
Students will be supported in making several bowls on the pottery wheel.

A class for all styles. The class is designed for both the novice and experienced painter wanting a safe and encouraging studio space and those beginning their visual journey. The course looks at the basics such as setting up, types of materials, painting styles, composition and techniques. We encourage water - based mediums such as acrylics for ease of use and clean up. You can choose to work from your own photographs or still life objects.
MATERIALS REQUIRED: A3 size canvas boards or canvas stretchers, a selection of paints (include primary colours), round and square bristle brushes. In the first instance just something to get you started! We will talk more about materials in the first session.

A course designed to unleash your creative potential, exploring the intuitive language of mark making including carefree and realsitic drawing. Sessions will cover some of the basic rules of the drawing process using dry media; pencils, charcoal and pastel to investigate line, tone and perspective to deliver exciting results on paper. A fun and exploratory investigation and experience into the art of drawing.
Students will work from a multiple of sources including still life objects and photographs.
MATERIALS REQUIRED: A2 paper or drawing pad, A2 layout drawing pad or similar, selection of pencils: HB, 2B, 4B and 6B, eraser, charcoal stick, black chalk pastels or similar. Clean up rags.

Begin your exploration into drawing the human figure in a supporting and encouraging environment. A course developed for both beginners and advanced students to recognise proportions and gestures, light sources and identifying masses and planes that underlay the human form. You will learn to train your mind, eye and hand co-ordination to deliver quality studies through personal instruction. All models provided.
MATERIALS REQUIRED: A3/A2 sketch pad; bulldog clip or similar; Selection of pencils: HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B. Compressed charcoal sticks; Soft pastels (greys); Putty eraser. Advanced students feel free to complement with your own preferred materials.
This class caters for students who are new to pastel, and also students with some experience with pastel. The course will cover lessons in still life, portrait and landscape pastel paintings, with plenty of demonstrations and weekly emailed class notes from the tutor. Students will develop skills and confidence and discover the joy of working with pastels.
MATERIALS REQUIRED: The tutor has spare sets of pastels which she is happy to lend to students who are new to pastel. Also she has examples of the different pastel papers for students to try.
Otherwise, bring your own pastels, pastel papers, willow charcoal, bull dog clips, wet wipes, apron and drawing board. An A2 light weight foam board makes an excellent drawing board.

The tutor will give plenty of demonstrations, showing the qualities and vibrant colours that make pastels so unique.
