Combining elements of Japanese Notan design, with mixed-media sculpture, students are invited to create their own Notan designs. These can be inspired by anything from animals, to faces, geometric shapes or plants. Students then translate these designs into colourful Notan sculptures, which can then be painted with metallic colours.
In a series of fun activities, students get to explore different mixed-media techniques including painting, sculpture, collage with found objects, while looking at different sculptors as artistic inspiration (ranging from Andy Goldsworthy to Barabara Hepworth). Students will play with colour, form, radial symmetry, positive/negative space while using accessible, sustainable materials to create their own unique pieces of art.
