The exhibition “The Land Beyond the Lines” invites viewers on a journey between opposing extremes of human existence. We begin in the earth’s depths, in the complex lines of the subway, where human stories of longing, loneliness, and fragile connections are revealed. These are portraits that capture the essence of modern urban life.
From the pressure of the underground, we are drawn toward other lines—the open horizon of New Zealand’s wild coasts. In this “Land Beyond the Lines,” nature speaks in its own powerful language. The coastal paintings offer a dramatic contrast to the urban stories, revealing a raw, untamed beauty.
The exhibition explores the connection between these contrasts through contemporary paintings that represent a quest for meaning. This is an artistic search that attempts to break through familiar boundaries of style and color. It is a reference to the artist’s own creative journey, a constant pursuit of new meaning, influenced by the human stories beneath the ground and the powerful nature above it.
“The Land Beyond the Lines” is an invitation to examine how stories from a closed space intertwine with the wildness of nature, and how they converge on the canvas in a continuous search for new meaning.
