Exhibition Information
Louise Davis – Kuhunga: Satellite Exhibition at B:Hive Smales Farm
Tues 3rd June – Mon 30th June
For Matariki, Louise Davis presents Kuhunga, an exhibition that brings together textile and
raranga to explore personal and cultural heritage. The title, meaning “to cover up,” reflects
Davis’ interest in revealing suppressed narratives of Māori experience during colonisation.
Her works often incorporate recycled and gifted materials, fabrics collected through her
work in film and television, and colonial textile designs such as French Toile de Jouy. Some
of her works feature illustrations created in collaboration with her whānau. Blending
Indigenous and European traditions, Davis uses fibre and pattern to reflect on what is
hidden, remembered, and reimagined
Location: Foyer of B:Hive Smales Farm, 74 Taharoto Rd, Takapuna
