This ten-week course will introduce beginners to the fundamentals of painting with watercolours. Through weekly demonstrations and guided practice, you’ll explore the techniques needed to create beautiful watercolour paintings – with plenty of hands-on support and advice to give you the confidence to find your own style and have fun with this versatile medium. Whether you’re completely new or returning after a break, this course offers steady, structured learning without pressure. Returning students will work on fresh projects and slightly more challenging activities, designed to strengthen foundational skills and support continued artistic development.

Materials Required

MATERIALS REQUIRED: Watercolour paper: acid free, minimum 50% cotton (ideally 100%), cold press, minimum 190gsm weight, waterercolour paints: minimum student grade (Winsor & Newton Cotman range is good), minimum colours 1x blue, 1x red and 1x yellow, brushes: Round brushes with a point (size 12), flat brush (size 6), wash brush e.g. Hake (size 1&1/2”), palette with large mixing areas, 2x water containers, one for cleaning brushes and one for clean water, masking tape with low tack (purple painters’ tape from the hardware store is great), pencil and eraser, roll of toilet paper, support board to tape your paper to.
