Sylvia Sinel – Multi-media Artist and Educator

Come and meet our artist in residence Sylvia Sinel and join her in her Lake House Studio. Sylvia is situated in the Ell Studio, Upstairs in Lake house Arts Main Building.

Sylvia’s interdisciplinary practice spans over 35 years and the creative drive is a deep curiosity for materials, spirituality and ancient wisdom traditions. Each new piece is granted agency and allowed to find its own voice and story through an intuitive, responsive process. Sylvia’s form language is often characterized by clean lines influenced by her Swedish/Scandinavian origin, in combination with soft curves and strong silhouettes. Her work evokes a sense of both familiarity and otherness—inviting viewers to linger in the liminal space where form, painterly surface and soul intertwine.

Originally from Sweden, Sylvia moved to New Zealand in 2013 and settled in Hamilton, where she became an active contributor to the local arts community. In 2025 she relocated to Auckland’s North Shore, where she established a new studio at the iconic Takapuna Lake House Art Centre.
