Artist Statement:

"This piece started as a Taniwha tale then morphed into a Stingray and then a Whale tale. I realized it is a shapeshifter between worlds, beings, objects, a spirit that can morph into its environment to observe, plant a seed, help guide us, new beginnings and growth.

The day the story came to me I was lying on the beach after a swim in severe tooth pain.

I went into a meditative state and was floating between what these beings mean and have to tell us.

Just before I went into the dentist someone commented that it looked like a Whale tale . I had just seen in the news that 3 Wales had stranded not far from where I lived, a family. When I came out I was going to go and help but the pain kept me home, and again laid down and travelled into what was now 3 stories morphing into one.

3 beings 3 storys all here to guide us as we discover this new world, you can not have one without the other.

Taniwha, guide, shapeshifter, protector

Whai-Stingray, traveler between worlds, guardian, wisdom, courage, strength

Tohora-Whale, guide, aristocracy, self examination, spiritual awakening, inspiration, clarity, peace, love and harmony.

Perhaps the wood I found is Rakau Tipua and as I worked on it, it was allowing me to see varying perspectives of reality so I can move forward in this new world, new growth, new beginnings, planting seeds for the better good."
