Painting Elements is an exploration of painting (and drawing) for students of all levels of
experience. Starting with a range of drawing exercises designed to introduce alternative ways of seeing,
students will learn about form, colour, composition, as well as materials and how to best make
use of them. Taking the ‘still life’ as our subject, we will be using this genre as a way of looking at and exploring the various elements of painting (and drawing), and how these elements can be used in making a painting that the student can learn from.

Materials Required

Pencils (HB/ 2B/ 4B), Soft eraser, pencil sharpener, acrylic paint (colours: black & white) either Liquitex, Pebeo, Sennelier, Global, glass jar (for water), cotton rag, brushes – DAS hog hair #4/ /8 or (Round -5mm/ 10mm), brushes – DAS hog hair #4/ 8/ 12 or (Bright -5mm/ 10mm/ 20-30mm), A3 120gsm paper pad (Fabriano/ Academia or similar), plastic painting tray (6 cup) with lid. We will discuss more about materials such as acrylics and what colours to get in the first session.
