About the exhibition:
The Howick Photographic Society is proud to present an extraordinary photographic exhibition showcasing the works of three talented photographers: Shona Kebble (FPSNZ), Torben Nielsen, and Nikolai Vakhroushev. The exhibition, “The Bridging Culture – A Photographic Journey Uniting China and New Zealand,” will transport visitors to the heart of China’s rich cultural heritage through stunning visual storytelling.
The collection features a captivating series of images captured during a journey through the small towns and villages of the Tujia and Miao people in Hunan, Shaanxi, and Guangdong Provinces. The photographers participated in a September 2024 expedition organized by “Travel With Me,” which provided unique access to the region’s landscapes, architecture, and daily life.
From the intricate wooden stilt houses perched above winding rivers to the vibrant traditional festivals and the warm hospitality of the locals, the exhibition highlights the cultural diversity and enduring traditions of China’s ethnic communities. Each photographer brings a unique perspective, blending artistic vision with documentary precision to create a compelling narrative of exploration and discovery.
